Nudge is a tool for staying in touch with friends and family. It works by building a newsletter from updates that you and your friends email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Your updates are intended to be more personal and thoughtful than the typical statuses you'd post to Facebook or Twitter. Plus, you'll only get one newsletter per month.
Your newsletter will arrive at the end of the month. This email will feature all of the updates that your friends have sent in over the past month.
We'll send an automatic "check-in" email if you haven't sent an update by the middle of the month. You can reply to this email with your monthly update and we'll share it with your friends.
There are two easy ways to share an update. The first is to wait for our check-in email, sent mid-month. Simply reply and your update will be included in the next newsletter.
The second option is to send an email to email@example.com. You can email at any time (and as often as you like).
Nudge supports daily, weekly, monthly, biweekly, quarterly, and yearly schedules.
To change your schedule, sign in and choose "Your Settings" from the "Signed in as..." menu. Next, click "Email Settings" and edit your schedule in the menu at the bottom of the popup.
Nudge takes privacy extremely seriously. Your updates are only shared with friends you've added directly or who belong to one of your groups.
An easy way to tell who can see your updates is by visiting the Nudge site. Any email address that is listed will receive your updates.
To remove or block someone, simply delete their email address whereever it appears. If you are connected through a group that you didn't create, however, you'll need to leave that group.
There are two easy ways to add friends. The first is to list your friends' email addresses using the Nudge website. Choose (or create) a group, then type as many emails as you like.
The second is generally more personal. Write an email to any friends you'd like to add and include firstname.lastname@example.org as a recipient ("bcc" works best). The contacts will be added to Nudge automatically.
You can add friends to a group via email by including a "#GroupNameWithoutSpaces" tag in the subject line.
You can use as many email addresses as you like with Nudge. This makes it easy for friends to find you as they can add any of your emails. Plus, it lets you consolidate everything into one newsletter.
To add more emails, sign in and choose "Your addresses..." from the "Signed in as..." menu. Next, list all the emails you'd like to associate with your account and click save. You'll need to check your inbox for our activation link before the addresses will be enabled.
Groups make it easy to keep a number of friends in touch. By joining a group, you'll share and receive updates from all the group's members.
Any member can add more members to the group. Only the group's creator, however, can change its name or description. This makes it easy to build up a comprehensive group.
Nudge comes with a default group called "Individuals". This is a private group that only you can edit and only you can see.
The "Individuals" group is a good way to add friends one by one who aren't affiliated with any group in particular.
There is a special notation for limiting who can see your updates (or even parts of your updates). These are similar to Twitter hashtags.
To share an update with a specific group, put "#GroupNameWithoutSpaces" anywhere in the subject of your email.
To hide an update from a specific group, put "~GroupNameWithoutSpaces" anywhere in the subject of your email.
You can mix and match multiple "#" and "~" tags. You can also put "To: " followed by privacy tags anywhere in your email. Any text following this special line will be limited as above. This works multiple times, too.
To manage your updates, sign in and choose "Your updates..." from the "Signed in as..." menu. You can delete updates that you'd no longer like to share.
You can browse an archive of old newsletters by signing into the Nudge website. These newsletters will be available for as long as your account is active.
